About Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary, holistic therapy based on the principle that there are reflexes on the feet which correspond to every part, gland, and organ of the body. Reflex points, which relate to all parts of the body, can be found in the feet, hands, face, and ears. These points respond to pressure, stimulating the body’s own natural healing process.

Reflexology creates physiological, chemical and emotional changes throughout the body. During and after a reflexology treatment, the body begins progressively clearing blockages, re-establishing energy flows and balancing itself, resulting in better health. There are many different styles and approaches used in reflexology, with foot reflexology currently the most popular and proven form, however, the basic principle is constant.

Reflexology has been known to mankind for thousands of years, going back to the ancient cultures of China and Egypt, as depicted in stone carvings dating back to 2330 B.C. In modern times an increasing number of people are availing of this safe and natural therapy as a way of relaxing, balancing and harmonizing the body. There are many factors in life, such as illness, stress, injury, that can create a state of imbalance, a state of disease – but the body has a natural ability to heal itself.

Consider the following suggestions as you begin your search for the Reflexology practitioner who best suits you:

Do some research when searching for a reflexologist, it is important to find one who has taken the proper training as opposed to someone who has just had a brief introduction  (such as a two-week course or a weekend workshop) and think they have mastered the techniques of reflexology. You also want an experienced reflexologist, because it takes a lot of practice to build sensitivities in the fingers and to be aware of energy flow.  Although all conscious touch is beneficial, those who know the art of touch and are aware of the power of reflexology will give the most beneficial sessions.

Ask friends, family and other healthcare providers for a referral.
